ORGANIZATION OF А TRAINING USING PRETERM NEWBORN HIGH REALISTIC SIMULATION

Abstract
Reducing the infant mortality rate is one of the important tasks of the maternal and child health service, therefore, it is of particular importance to provide qualified medical care to newborns, including respiratory stabilization of premature babies. The article presents the experience of using a highly realistic robot of a premature baby “Little Pavlik” at the stage of postgraduate medical education.

PREDICTORS OF PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS OF SURGEONS AND THE ROLE OF SIMULATION TRAINING IN ITS FORMATION

Abstract

The article presents an analytical review of theoretical and empirical studies that reveal the essence of predictors of professional success of surgeons. The role of simulation training in the formation of professional success is revealed.

ESTABLISHING VALIDITY FOR A CHEST SIMULATION MODEL FOR TORACOCENTESIS TRAINING

Abstract

The aim – ​to evaluate the validity of a human chest model for simulation-based training for thoracentesis.

Material and methods. The procedure was performed by participants with different levels of practical skills (students, residents and doctors). The videos were assessed by a skilled surgeon independently. They didn’t know about capacity of the participants. We used a modified checklist as an assessment tool, which was based on the checklist, proposed by the Copenhagen Academy of Medical Education and Modeling.

Results. All 24 participants (16 students, 6 residents, 2 doctors) performed 3 thoracocentesis procedures on the simulation model, the database consisted of 72 videos. The internal consistency of the checklist was sufficient (Cronbach’s α 0.72). The level of inter-expert reliability was significant (κ 0.68 at p<0.001). Experienced participants scored significantly higher scores on each of the three trials than students and residents (H-score for trial #1, 2, 3 – 11.3086, p=0.004; 16.1346, p<0.001; 16.4702, p<0.001, respectively). Based on the method of contrasting groups, the minimum acceptable threshold of points for confirming the level of competence was established (27 and 30 points for students and residents, respectively). Students and residents showed significantly better results after 3 procedures (χ2 Friedman 25.290, p<0.001; 9.238, p=0.01, respectively). Also, students significantly increased their speed of the procedure after completing 3 attempts (χ2 Friedman 22.875, p<0.001).

Conclusion. The totality evidence showed high-level of validation of simulation model which was developed by the initiative group of the FEFU School of Medicine.

WAYS TO IMPROVE SIMULATION TRAINING ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE SPECIALTY “ENDOSCOPY”

Abstract

Simulation training has proven to be effective among medical students and medical practitioners. It is known that the development of endoscopic procedures is a complex process. Simulation in endoscopy allows physicians to acquire technical and cognitive skills in a specially designed environment. The purpose of training in the simulation center is to use the capabilities of modern teaching technologies in mastering the skills of endoscopic examination of the gastrointestinal tract and bronchopulmonary system, based on advances in robotics and virtual reality. This article describes the chronology of the appearance of endoscopic simulators, their modern realities and the methodology of simulation training in different time periods in the specialty “endoscopy”.

HOW TO SET STANDARDS ON PERFORMANCE-BASED EXAMINATIONS: AMEE GUIDE NO. 85

Abstract

This AMEE Guide offers an overview of methods used in determining passing scores for performance-based assessments. A consideration of various assessment purposes will provide context for discussion of standard setting methods, followed by a description of different types of standards that are typically set in health professions education. A step-by-step guide to the standard setting process will be presented. The Guide includes detailed explanations and examples of standard setting methods, and each section presents examples of research done using the method with performance-based assessments in health professions education. It is intended for use by those who are responsible for determining passing scores on tests and need a resource explaining methods for setting passing scores. The Guide contains a discussion of reasons for assessment, defines standards, and presents standard setting methods that have been researched with performance-based tests. The first section of the Guide addresses types of standards that are set. The next section provides guidance on preparing for a standard setting study. The following sections include conducting the meeting, selecting a method, implementing the passing score, and maintaining the standard. The Guide will support efforts to determine passing scores that are based on research, matched to the assessment purpose, and reproducible.

ABOUT SCIENCE DISCIPLINE “MEDICAL INFORMATICS” AND KNOWLEDGE PRESENTATION FOR STUDENTS AND DOCTORS IN THE ERA OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract

The development of the scientific discipline “medical informatics” has accelerated significantly due to the introduction of computer technologies. But this science existed long before them. Informatics is the science of the general properties and structure of data and information, the laws of its creation, transformation, accumulation, transmission and use for scientific and practical purposes. Clinical practice and decision-making in healthcare management are impossible without data collection, presentation and analysis. The article discusses the basic concepts and architecture of the discipline “medical informatics”, as well as ways to create and bring new knowledge to medical students and practitioners. Classical book editions and new digital knowledge databases are considered. New tools necessary for their development are described, examples of Russian and foreign knowledge bases with links are given.

COMPETENCE-BASED APPROACH IN TRAINING PHYSICIANS OF A THERAPEUTIC PROFILE: IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ALGORITHM FOR ALERTNESS TO IRON DEFICIENCY IN WOMEN

Abstract

The authors developed a program of additional education for general practitioners as part of the cognitive-behavioral prevention of iron deficiency conditions in women and evaluated the effectiveness of its implementation.

ASSESSMENT OF THE DEGREE OF SATISFACTION WITH THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS DURING THE MASTERING OF THE DISCIPLINE “BIOTECHNOLOGY” IN TYUMEN MEDICAL UNIVERSITY IN VARIOUS TRAINING FORMATS

Abstract

The aim – ​to assess the degree of satisfaction with the educational process when mastering the discipline “Biotechnology” at the Tyumen Medical University using various training formats.

Material and methods. Anonymous survey of 56 students of the 5th year of the Faculty of Pharmacy (continuous sample) who were trained both in full-time and using distance learning technologies during the 2020/2021 academic year.

Results and discussion. The high scores given by students to remote forms of lectures are justified, first of all, by the fact that students, when working with lecture notes, are in a comfortable environment, are not limited in time, as in traditional classroom work, and can repeatedly return to slides. At the same time, with distance learning, it is more difficult for teachers to receive feedback from students and control the educational process. Also, when organizing the educational process, it is necessary to take into account the specifics of the methodology and technology of teaching the discipline “Biotechnology”, where for the successful mastering of the discipline, the direct interaction of teachers and students in performing laboratory work and modeling situational tasks is important.

Conclusion. The opinion of students about distance learning is generally positive. The presentation of lecture material using distance learning technologies showed certain advantages in comparison with traditional classroom work, but the degree of student satisfaction with practical classes conducted in person was still higher than in the distance form.

TRANSFORMATION OF THE LIFESTYLE OF STUDENTS IN THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

Self-isolation, introduced as a forced preventive measure in response to the high threat of the spread of the SARS-CoV‑2 virus, leads to a change in the usual stereotypes of lifestyle and behavior.

Material and methods. An anonymous sociological survey of students of the Omsk State Medical University (n=278) was conducted according to the author’s questionnaire using GoogleForm.

Results. The transformation of stereotypes of behavior of young people under the influence of distance learning and forced self-isolation has been studied. The change in the habitual lifestyle of students was manifested in the following: compliance with anti-epidemic measures, a significant decrease in motor activity, communication intensity, an increase in the time spent on the Internet, a change in the degree of involvement in the educational process, leisure activities.

Discussion. The transformation of the lifestyle of students during the COVID‑19 pandemic is accompanied, among other things, by negative changes in their physical and psychological state, the level of educational and professional motivation, which poses an important task for higher education, along with solving the problems of the curriculum, to create favorable conditions for the educational process in an unfavorable epidemiological situation.

Conclusion. Further continuation of the study of the lifestyle of students in the extreme conditions of the COVID‑19 pandemic will allow us to determine the directions for optimizing the educational process in the direction of increasing motivation for educational and professional activities, strengthening psychological stability. Along with this, an important point is the support of young people who find themselves in a difficult life situation and need outside help.
