Simulation in Healthcare Education. Building a Simulation Programme: AMEE Guide no 50 (Russian version edited by Z.Z. Balkizov)
Abstract
In its simplest form «simulation» can be defined as a technique of imitation of the reality. A wide range of simulation devices and techniques are currently used in medical education. The choice to use simulation is dictated not only by various driving forces, but also by the intended outcomes and goals. These outcomes could include an ability to train and assess, improve patient safety and conduct research. It is important not to view the techniques of simulation as a panacea for all educational needs. A «best fit» approach is recommended where the decision whether or not to use any simulation technique is matched with the intended outcomes.
