Computerized virtual reality simulation in preclinical dentistry: can a computerized simulator replace the conventional phantom heads and human instruction?

Abstract
In preclinical dental education, the acquisition of clinical, technical skills, and the transfer of these skills to the clinic are paramount. Phantom heads provide an efficient way to teach preclinical students dental procedures safely while increasing their dexterity skills considerably. Modern computerized phantom head training units incorporate features of virtual reality technology and the ability to offer concurrent augmented feedback. The aims of this review were to examine and evaluate the dental literature for evidence supporting their use and to discuss the role of augmented feedback versus the facilitator's instruction. Adjunctive training in these units seems to enhance student's learning and skill acquisition and reduce the required faculty supervision time. However, the virtual augmented feedback cannot be used as the sole method of feedback, and the facilitator's input is still critical. Well-powered longitudinal randomized trials exploring the impact of these units on student's clinical performance and issues of cost-effectiveness are warranted.

Analysis of the effectiveness of training on the implementation of clinical scenarios in simulated conditions in preparation of anesthesiologist-resuscitator

Abstract
Simulation trainings are designed to improve the quality of the learning process. Our goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of using clinical scenarios implemented in simulated conditions to assess the degree of formation of some professional competencies for residents. In a group of 10 residents enrolled in the specialty 31.08.02 аnesthesiology-resuscitation, 3 training sessions were conducted with different clinical scenarios, under the conditions of the imitating ward of resuscitation. Scenarios have a scheduled flow with the possibility of changing the state depending on the actions evaluated by the control sheet. In the first training, only one test subject (10%) had a positive result, in the second - in 8 (80%), in the third - in 9 (90%) residents. There is a direct dependence in reducing the number of errors committed by residents, from the experience gained in the training. The use of simulation technologies makes it possible to objectively assess the formation of professional competencies of students. For the consolidation of sustainable professional skills, it is necessary to conduct regular simulator trainings.

Simulation technologies for education effectiveness evaluation

Abstract
As the main goals of Medical Simulation Center of City Clinical Hospital named after S.P. Botkin (hereinafter MSC of Botkin hospital) the organization and maintenance of specific conditions for increasing effectiveness and improving the quality of professional trainings for medical specialists could not have been reached without modern technologies. During the study of an applied professional training model with the focus on simulation technologies there was an anonymous survey numbering 710 participants who were the MSC "trainees" representing different specialties, experience or qualification including social work or/and education system specialists. All participants showed their positive feelings domination and were satisfied with the class arrangement, tutors' work, models and methods of teaching, a wide range of activities during the classes, facilities and high-reality equipment.
Apparently, the survey analysis results definitely prove the effectiveness of an applied method of training at MSC of Botkin hospital along with the trainees' satisfaction at a sufficiently high level on the following parameters. According to our data there has never been a study of such a kind before. Obviously, it is not possible to build up the educational system and make it develop to obtain up-to-date professional results in the future having no evaluation of education effectiveness.
