Quantitative and qualitative methods in medical education research: AMEE Guide N 90 (Part I)

Abstract

Medical educators need to understand and conduct medical education research in order to make informed decisions based on the best evidence, rather than rely on their own hunches. The purpose of this Guide is to provide medical educators, especially those who are new to medical education research, with a basic understanding of how quantitative and qualitative methods contribute to the medical education evidence base through their different inquiry approaches and also how to select the most appropriate inquiry approach to answer their research questions.

Flipped teaching-learning in medical education

Abstract

Flipped teaching-learning – is a purposeful process of organizing students’ activities, which consists of e-learning by using online-courses with self-assessment, and subsequent classroom interactive training sessions, aimed at the application of knowledge, formation of cognitive and practical skills and competencies. Flipped teaching-learning is based on “Flipped classroom” model at secondary school. The new model helps to integrate of innovative educational technologies, methods and tools in a single system, implement it into existing educational program and provide a more effective achievement of expected learning outcomes.

Comparative analysis of various methods of mastery learning

Abstract

Aim to study quality of educational process of future medical experts with application of methods of training with use of modern information and communication technologies (hi-tech).

Novelty. The analysis of three types of training is for the first time carried out: the traditional; video of presentation; and the training Internet by downloading, studying of a training material and testing in the online mode.

Conclusions. Introduction of tool methods of training (webinar, internet) can not only improve training of masters in medical schools, increase quality of medical care, but also will save time of teachers for check of test tasks, it is possible to use for discussion of a subject in the form of questions and answers.
