Abstract

In 1990, Miller wrote that no tools were available for assessment of what a learner does when functioning independently at the clinical workplace (Miller, 1990). Since then portfolios have filled this gap and found their way into medical education, not only as tools for assessment of performance in the workplace, but also as tools to stimulate learning from experience.

We give an overview of the content and structure of various types of portfolios, describe the potential of electronic portfolios, present techniques and strategies for using portfolios as tools for stimulating learning and for assessment, and discuss factors that influence the success of the introduction. We conclude that portfolios have a lot of potential but that their introduction also often leads to disappointment, because they require a new perspective on education from mentors and learners and a significant investment of time and energy.

Relevance and purposes of introduction of educational movies on classroom occupations with students of chair of physical therapy of stomatological faculty A.I. Evdokimov Moscow State Medical Stomatological University

Abstract
The article describes the using experience of educational movies during in-class learning with students of physical therapy chair of stomatological faculty of A.I. Evdokimov Moscow State Medical Stomatological University, within modern educational technologies. Within discipline teaching "Physical therapy" is developed and approved a technique based on application of educational movies. The developed recommendations are a fragment of educational process on discipline "Physical therapy". In article we have given a practical advice on creation of modern educational movies. The offered model, allows to optimize and increase efficiency and quality of training, and creates conditions for formation of professional competence of future doctor.

If the main aim of medical care is to improve the health and social well-being of the patient, the act of obtaining an accurate history from the patient must be one of the key factors in achieving this aim. However, as we move into an age of advanced medical technology, the art of accurate history taking slowly moves into obscurity as greater reliance is placed upon routine and advanced investigations to formulate a provisional diagnosis. In a world where resources are unlimited and science achieves all, this approach brings no consequences. In a world where such resources are scarce, the use of the human computer, the brain, remains paramount. This short article attempts to revive the art of history taking and describes how a rational approach to obtaining such a history can provide a rich source of information: enough to provide the physician with a working diagnosis in the majority of instances.
