ROLE OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING IN MEDICAL EDUCATION

Abstract

A large number of studies have been published indicating the benefits of pedagogical approaches such as problem-based learning (PBL) and importance of developing professional qualifications of doctors in medical education. The aim of this review was to examine the worldwide literature on the relationship between PBL and professional development in senior medical students. In this regard, the authors conducted an analytical review of six electronic databases. They identified eight peer-reviewed full-text articles that were most appropriate for this analysis. As a result of this study, it was found that, despite extensive research into the development of professional qualities in medical education, there is not enough knowledge about how new types of pedagogical approaches, such as the PBL curriculum, affect the development of professional qualities in medical students.
