Academician B.V. Petrovsky's contribution to development of the medical education system (on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of his birth)

AbstractAcademician B.V. Petrovsky - outstanding Russian surgeon, scientist, teacher, organizer of public health and medical science, founder of the largest scientific school - made a great contribution to the reform of the national medical education system. In order to improve the quality of training for health professionals, at the initiative and under the leadership of B.V. Petrovsky the reorganization of the higher medical school was carried out, the system of postgraduate education was intensively developed and qualitatively improved. B.V. Petrovsky has a priority in the creation of educational-scientific-industrial complexes as an original form of organization of scientific research, medical and pedagogical activities, he offered principles of teaching surgery at under- and postgraduate stages. Academician B.V. Petrovsky's main ideas about specialization, gradualness, consistency, continuity in the training of doctors firmly entered life and today have not lost their relevance.
