Postgraduate training (residency) for psychiatry in Canada

AbstractThis article outlines the basic features of the residency training at Queen's University, Canada, describing the main "roles" and competencies of CanMEDS. The entrance requirements are listed alone with the description of the main features of the 5-year residency training program. In addition, a two-step licensing exam, the exit specialty exam as well as the opportunity to pursue a sub-specialty training are discussed. The authors hope that the information, presented in this article, will be useful for improving the education in psychiatry ordinatura and can also serve as a starting point for discussing the possibility of accrediting residency programs in psychiatry in Russia.
